So a whole 22 days into the new year and I feel like things are starting to get going again. The long break that we get here in Madison really puts you out of touch. I worked all break, so I keep things busy, and made some good money which was very much welcomed from me. The first week of classes has seen some interesting classes and some good times already. This semester I’m taking fluid mechanics which I have been waiting for since freshman year. My professor seems really smart, but I don’t think he’s going to be the greatest. I guess we’ll have to see as the class moves forward, but not looking good there. I taking dynamic systems which also seems to be really interesting, but I hear it’s a hard class. The finally I’m taking measurements which is a class all about instrumentation and recording data. I wasn’t excited to take it, but I have a good professor and it sounds really interesting so far. I guess I’m the most excited for that class.
The good times have also been on tap, literally. We had a party last Sunday before classes started. It was a really good time. I was able to play one of my mixes even. For those of you that don’t know, I mix electronic music in the small amount of spare time I have. It was really cool to see people dancing to it. It’s all about making people happy and expressing myself through that. So to see people dancing and having a good time to the music was really special to me. It doesn’t even bother me that they were also drunk off their asses, they still had fun. On top of that, I went to see Skrillex on Thursday night, at the Majestic. I got pretty drunk before I went, but it was the right amount because I had an incredible time at the show. When Skrillex came out, he told us that he couldn’t play because his laptop died on him. This means they were going to have another concert; no charge to people that went to the first one. Awesome. The dj that I knew, dj Raddish, played the rest of the night and completely killed it. The the next night I went to a house party and failed to take it easy as I was hoping to do. But I was glad because I had a good time with the roommates.
On the other side of life, training has really kicked into high gear. I have been following a training plan that the UW cycling club has set out for us, and I have been pretty pleased with it so far. On the one hand I am worried that the workouts are not hard enough. But then again I have been tired after almost every ride just like I want to be. I’ve got the heart rate thing going really well, but I seriously need to get a PowerTap from work. I think I need to be more forward about asking. They are really happy with my work, so I’m optimistic. Today I had a test for my ride. I consisted of me riding for about an hour to get really tired and then going as hard as I could for 20 minutes. I decided to do this one outside, amazing idea! It was gorgeous out today, a bit cold though. I dressed perfect though so the riding was just amazing. It felt really good to be able to push myself again. I really had to turn myself inside out. I was thinking about it though. I think I have pretty strong legs, and my lungs and heart are strong too. I think I just really need to learn to suffer again. I almost got used to taking it easy after last year. I really want to take things to the next level, and show the world what I have. I will leave you with this:
On the open road
Let your suffering teach you
Who you truly are
