I have been fortunate to coach some amazing athletes other the past handful of years and it has been as successful as it has been fun. In an effort to grow my business and expand my services, I am introducing a new coaching program. Along with my current offerings of Training Plans, Limited Coaching Adviser, and Full Coaching, I am happy to introduce the Premium Coached Athlete. This new level of coaching seeks to offer the most comprehensive coaching possible, expanding upon the full coaching by adding layers of new analysis, access to the latest metrics, and a lot more communication than the full coaching offers. This level of coaching means that athletes have access to whatever level of of service they need, from the most simple, to the most comprehensive through JM Coaching.
Previously my highest level of coaching was Full Coaching. This level offered a complete coaching program, suited to serious athletes. It was a closed loop coaching program, with training plans and workout schedules driven by testing and analysis. Training plans based on proven science and experience, and as the relationship developed, so do the workouts. The planning and workouts grow with the athlete, their strengths and weaknesses are identified and accounted for in the custom training program. Athletes get workout feedback to help them get the most out of each workout, and make sure they are on the right track.
The new premium level of coaching seeks to offer the same closed loop coaching, analysis, and feedback of the full coaching, but expand and deepen at every level. To do this, the athletes gets more of the basics, and access to advanced offers.
The first difference is access to the advanced analysis. A full coaching program offers access to what I would consider the essential metrics for quantifying and predicting fitness. The Premium Coaching offers access to every advanced metric that I can offer, and access to new metrics and trends as they become part of the coaching world. As new ways of understanding athletes performance make their way to the coaching world, the premium athletes get the first shot to see what benefits they can provide. At this time, The essential metrics I use are Stress (TSS, TRIMPS, or Estimated Stress), duration, time in zones, intensity specific stresses, to help track specific performance, as well distance, work, RPE, Quadrant Analysis, and subjective ratings. Premium Coaching expands these to include W Prime Exp, W Prime Balance, Dynamic Threshold Tracking, and Workout Specific Tracking. In addition, this is an ever growing list, as new metrics become relevant and implemented, premium athletes have access to them.
Another key difference is that this analysis becomes daily. Full Athletes get weekly analysis, which for most is sufficient to get a lot out of the training. But for those who are fully focused on their training, and those who are completing multiple workouts a day, getting daily updates becomes much more valuable because the pace of the training is that much higher. This means getting feedback on rides while the effort is still fresh in your mind and in the legs.
Along with the increase in analysis frequency, the athlete also gets more frequent communication to go along. This is a reflection of the increased pace of the training, the coaching needs to be more responsive, it needs to react quicker to the training, and more communication is a huge way to do that.
Premium Athletes also will get customized workotus. With all the added analysis, this opens up a coaches ability to understand the athlete's strengths and weaknesses on a much deeper level, and means that workouts can be fully customized to their needs. Full Athletes already get some customization, but this is usually in the form of adding volume when needed, or increasing or decreasing the number of intervals. Premium Athletes will have fully customized workouts, when the need arises. This means workouts are exactly tailored to the target events. Whether that means specific efforts, specific skills or drills, or specific training levels. The workouts are specialized to target exactly what the athlete needs when they need it.
Finally, as new services become available, premium athletes get access to them. Athletics and coaching are constantly evolving, and with the premium service, you get to stay on the forefront. Not only when it comes to trends in coaching, but as I develop new offerings as well. The premium level has access to it all. Some offering on the horizon include "virtual skills training" and workout videos, and course specific pacing and strategy discussion.
The goal of the Premium Athlete program is to offer a more complex and deep level of coaching to athletes. Through my years of experience, I've learned whats essential for an athletes success, and I've also learned how to turbo charge that success. That is where the premium program comes from. This level is for those who are fully committed, for those who want to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of their best performance. Because of the added time commitment for me as a coach, at this point I can only offer 2 slots to athletes.
